The Network grew out of a process, which prepared children and youth to participate in the Earth Summit in 1992.
The idea was to encourage young people to present their concerns to politicians and participate in the process to raise awareness of the need for sustainable development. 6000 school children participated in the process, which ended with a Children’s Hearing in Norway in 1990. |

REGIONAL HEARING On the 28th of November 2008 Young Voices Network (YVN) in collaboration with South Africa Young Voices Network (SAYVON) and other youth networks from Malawi, Angola, Rwanda and Mozambique, under the banner youth For solidarity Movement (Y4SM), held the first ever Southern Africa Regional Youth Hearing. The hearing brought together over 1500 young people and stakeholders to listen to the concerns of the young people. The theme of the hearing was “listen”, appealing to the policy makers and decision makers to listen to the concerns of young people. A consolidated report was presented to the SADC chairperson and was received on his behalf by the Ambassador, Mr. A.K Bramdell. Zimbabwe moved a motion for the adoption of the report and it was seconded by Malawi, there being no dissenting voices the report was adopted and signed by the Ambassador and the Youth for Solidarity movement chairperson Mr. T Sanangurai.
